2012-07-08 “Slow Down Advisory” Killed by Shuswap Boaters with Weekend Weather

The arrival of hot weather on the weekend killed the local “slow down” advisory for power boaters in the Shuswap. The lake at first looked quiet on Saturday only to go completely crazy on Sunday. Despite additional warnings about floating and submerged debris and dangerous levels of bacteria in the water system, people just behaved like in a normal summer. It’s good to leave all the stress behind caused by flooding and just have fun, but only as long as it is safe for everyone involved. Speeding on the lakes close or far from shore still creates huge problems for flood victims. While most public boat launches remain closed, some boaters helped themselves by removing the barriers at Canoe Beach. As soon as that was accomplished, masses of boaters went onto the water.
