Many paddlers complain that the generic ankle-high bootie just doesn’t keep their feet dry, especially not when the water is deeper than a few inches along a shoreline. Most of the available knee-high boots feature a reinforced, grippy and protective rubber sole which also works really well on wet surfaces. Coming back from a day’s paddling trip in the fall with wet and cold feet is very uncomfortable. Ordinary slippers most of us use during summer – may protect your feet with a thick sole but they do not keep you feet dry and warm. Neoprene Chest Waders

Neoprene chest waders offer excellent protection from cold air and water temperatures. When worn with a hip belt and in combination with your life jacket or PFD (underneath), the dramatically improve flotation. Look for a model which looks like a jump suit without boots. Most chest waders are made with 5 mm neoprene and specially flattened and glued seams. Recent experiments have contradicted claims that chest waders are linked to drowning deaths.
